Defending Hayden Teaser 9

EXCERPT:

Guilt plagued me and I felt sick. Getting out of bed, I paced the room, running my hands angrily through my hair. I didn’t want to hurt Hayden. Keeping her away would protect her from my life. She was bound to leave me anyway. I’d fuck up somehow and it would ruin her. What the hell was I talking about? I’d already fucked her up.

“Derek?” Her voice was like honey, silky and sweet. I’d imagined what it would be like to hear that voice screaming my name as I fucked her over and over. Last night had been the best night of my life, but it had scared the shit out of me. I couldn’t shake it. “Derek, are you okay?” she asked. Stopping midstep, I turned to face her, and her eyes widenened when she got a glimpse of my face. I could only imagine what she saw. So many emotions battled inside me. She held the blanket to her chest, and her lips trembled. “Please tell me this wasn’t just a game to you,” she whispered.

Swallowing hard, I sat down on the edge of the bed and reached for her. She recoiled from my touch. “None of this was a game, Hayden. Last night was fucking amazing.”

Her eyes glistened, but her jaw was firm. “Then why are you looking at me like that? Like you regret what we did.”

I wanted to touch her, but last night had been my only chance. She’d never let me close to her again. “I don’t regret it, but eventually you will. You’re not the only one who’s lost someone they cared about. I can’t go through it again. It’s best to stop this before it goes any further.”

“Any further?” she scoffed. She waved her arm around the room, her anger so thick I could cut it with a knife. “If you didn’t want it to go any further, then why did you bring me here? Why would you do that to me?”

“Because I care about you,” I said, knowing it made no sense to her.

“Then why are you pushing me away?” she cried.

Standing, I got up and walked over to the window. “You wouldn’t understand.”

Goodreads Summary

War has begun. Arin is in the thick of it with untrustworthy new allies and the empire as his enemy. Though he has convinced himself that he no longer loves Kestrel, Arin hasn’t forgotten her, or how she became exactly the kind of person he has always despised. She cared more for the empire than she did for the lives of innocent people—and certainly more than she did for him.

At least, that’s what he thinks.

In the frozen north, Kestrel is a prisoner in a brutal work camp. As she searches desperately for a way to escape, she wishes Arin could know what she sacrificed for him. She wishes she could make the empire pay for what they’ve done to her.

But no one gets what they want just by wishing.

As the war intensifies, both Kestrel and Arin discover that the world is changing. The East is pitted against the West, and they are caught in between. With so much to lose, can anybody really win?

My Thoughts

I cannot believe this is the last book to the Winner’s trilogy. What am i going to do after this? I will miss Kestrel and Arin so much. This is definitely hands down one of my favorite trilogy now alongside The Infernal Devices.

Marie Rutkoski is such an amazing writer. The way she put things together, the way her characters come together, it is just beautiful. Rutkoski made it seems like every single dialogue held so much more meaning to it. Overall, she is a fantastic writer and i will definitely get her books in the future.

Like i said, I love this book and i would recommend to everyone. It is not necessary the best book from the trilogy but i did enjoy it a lot and it wrapped up the entire series perfectly. Since it is the final book from the trilogy i will not go into detail in order not to spoil anyone.

Kestrel and Arin. They are my OTP. Well not exactly my favorite OTP but they are definitely up there somewhere. My number OTP has got to be… CAPTAIN SWAN ❤

killian-jones-emma-swan-once-upon-a-time-ouat-favim-com-4153523

Okay. Back to topic. Kestrel and Arin have gone through so much together and they deserved each other so much after sacrificing for each other. Even after they constantly hurt each other their love still stand and guys this is the kind of love everyone should have. Going the extra miles just to protect the ones you love even though you know at the same time it might hurt you. The romance in this whole trilogy was well done EVERYONE should read it.

Another character that almost everyone loves is Roshar. He is so funny. He is the one that made all of us laugh even when it is sad. I need a Roshar in my life.

The plot flowed really well. There were a certain troupe in this book that so many of us reader did not enjoy and i agree with all of them. It really changes so much of the book but it is okay it still doesn’t change the way i feel for this book.

I love the ending. I cannot ask for more. It is perfect.

I love this trilogy so much all of you really should read it. It is time to say goodbye to my favorite trilogy but they will always have a place in my heart.

“I told her that I belong to you, and no other.”

Synopsis

In the year since she cast her sunbolt, Hitomi has recovered only a handful of memories. But the truths of the past have a tendency to come calling, and an isolated mountain fastness can offer only so much shelter. When the High Council of Mages summons Brigit Stormwind to stand trial for treason, Hitomi knows her mentor won’t return—not with Arch Mage Blackflame behind the charges.

Armed only with her magic and her wits, Hitomi vows to free her mentor from unjust imprisonment. She must traverse spell-cursed lands and barren deserts, facing powerful ancient enchantments and navigating bitter enmities, as she races to reach the High Council. There, she reunites with old friends, planning a rescue equal parts magic and trickery.

If she succeeds, Hitomi will be hunted the rest of her life. If she fails, she’ll face the ultimate punishment: enslavement to the High Council, her magic slowly drained until she dies.

Excerpts

Before me the water lies smooth, no ripple disturbing its crystalline surface. Upon that polished expanse gleams the spell-cast image of my mother. Dressed in a pale pink kimono embroidered in shades of rose, she kneels before a tea tray, hands on her lap and face raised toward me. I have her eyes, though my skin has the desert tint of my father’s people. Her lips, neither too full nor too thin, grace her face in harmony with the gentle roundness of her cheeks, while my own features remain hollowed by the fire that once consumed me from the inside out. By her very stillness I know she has detected some trace of my spell, the ties of blood and kinship that I have used to seek her out through the shields that surround her.

“Let it go, Hitomi,” Stormwind says gently.

I release the tenuous thread of my casting with unexpected relief. I have attempted this spell half a dozen times now, but not once have I taken it to completion. I could have done it today had I not paused to observe her. The bitterness on my tongue has the singular taste of cowardice to it.

My mother’s image breaks apart, replaced by the faint reflection of trees overhead. I watch the water’s movement over the multi-hued stones covering the lake bottom. In the early morning light, they’re every color of the earth: the burnished yellow of evening sunlight, a dreamlike lavender, grays dark as storm clouds and light as hope, reds both as bright as blood and as dark as death. The colors of life lie beneath the water, calling to me as if I might reach out and recover the memories I lost in ash nearly a year ago.

My Thoughts

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one and definitely recommend it to everyone. This books starts of one year after the first book. The writing in this book was just as amazing as the first one (very detailed) and i love it a lot. The plot was captivating and it had my attention since the very start.

I expected a lot from this book since i enjoyed the first one a lot and i am really glad this book did not disappoint me. I like the addition of new characters and i cannot wait to read more in the future.

Overall, a really good book and definitely will recommend it to everyone.

MoA_Teaser1 Final

excerpt

“It needs a meal,” the mage says, voice rasping, “and it won’t be me.” He yanks me off balance. I cry out, jerking away from him and lashing out with my glowstone. I manage to smack him hard across the face, but then his boot comes between my feet. For a sickening moment I teeter on the edge of the stairs.

Get back!

I barely register the words ringing in my mind before the mage shoves me, hard. I swallow a scream, throwing my arms up to shield my head as I fall. I slam down the stairs, bouncing toward the mass of tentacles.

Feet first—get your feet first!

I follow the shouted advice mindlessly, twisting my body as I come to a stop amidst a tangle of three or four great tentacles.

Don’t move.

Someone is talking inside my head, and it’s not me. Somehow, that’s almost worse than lying surrounded by the talons of a nightmare monster. Almost.

Goodreads Summary

Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

My Thoughts

Holy crap guys. What did i just read? November 9 was perfection. It was SOOO good why haven’t i pick it up sooner? I really enjoyed November 9 a lot. i don’t even know what to say without spoiling anything. There were so much hype around November 9 last year that i told myself i had to get it but the thing is, i can NEVER find Colleen Hoover book in my country. So, i went to Bangkok last month and saw Colleen Hoover books i was so happy that i bought 3 of her books at one go.

This is my first book by Colleen Hoover and i am really impressed. Just the plot itself is enough for me to pick up the rest of her books. I know so many people who said that November 9 is their favorite CoHo book so i really do not know what i will think of her other book when this book is already perfection. Colleen Hoover writing style was on point and i love it.

tumblr_inline_mgoy9oylo21ro2d43

The plot was amazing guys. I like the idea that the main characters only meet on November 9 every year and how they give each other homework for the rest of the year until next November 9 and also how they live their life normally like nothing ever happen. I really want to go into detail on what happen in each of the November 9 but at the same time i don’t want to because i want all of you who haven’t read it to go pick it up.

“It took four years for me to fall in love with him. It only took four pages to stop.”
― Colleen Hoover, November Nine

I love Fallon throughout the whole book. She likes to read too and she talks about her ‘TBR pile’ and ‘insta-love’ ahh so cute. I enjoy looking at how she grew throughout the whole novel and became this confident girl.

As for Ben, i really like him till the 3rd November i think. When something happens and i think he was an ass. But overall, i still really love him and i think he was a great character to read about. Also, i really enjoys reading Ben conversation as every thing he say just held so much meaning in them.

“I don’t want to be your first, Fallon. I want to be your last.”
― Colleen Hoover, November 9

This book contain humor and heartbreaks. I laugh then cried then laugh again. I actually did cry a bit at the last part of the book but really, i feel sad every time one November 9 ended.

Before i forget, i wanted to mention the song November 9 by Griffin Peterson. It is so good and i love it. It really bring back all the feels after finishing the book. Make sure to listen to it after you finish reading the book.

Overall, i really enjoyed this book and i recommend it to every one who enjoys a romance contemporary and also if you love those movies Before Sunrise? It reminded me quite a lot of that movie.

“You’ll never be able to find yourself if you’re lost in someone else.”
― Colleen Hoover, November 9
