Book Review: The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski

Title: The Winner’s Curse

Author: Marie Rutkoski

Genre(s): Young Adult, Romance

Publication Date:Β March 12th 2015 by Bloomsbury Children’s

Pages: 400 (paperback)

Rating:  ❀ ❀ ❀ ❀ ❀ / 5 hearts

Goodreads Summary

Lady Kestrel’s engagement to Valoria’s crown prince calls for great celebration: balls and performances, fireworks and revelry. But to Kestrel it means a cage of her own making. Embedded in the imperial court as a spy, she lives and breathes deceit and cannot confide in the one person she really longs to trust …

While Arin fights to keep his country’s freedom from the hands of his enemy, he suspects that Kestrel knows more than she shows. As Kestrel comes closer to uncovering a shocking secret, it might not be a dagger in the dark that cuts him open, but the truth.

Lies will come undone, and Kestrel and Arin learn just how much their crimes will cost them in this second book in the breathtaking Winner’s trilogy.

The Winner’s Curse was one of my favourite in 2014 and The Winner’s Crime is definitely one of the best books i’ve read this year. I don’t even know how to do a review of this book without spoiling anything! It is just SO GOOD.

Lets just talk about how this book mess with my feels first. It broke my heart and made me hope again and broke my heart again. It just keeps repeating!

Kestrel is still such a great character although she gets annoying from time to time as she is doing something i didn’t want her to do. Like, tell him Kestrel! Just tell him! Okay, if you don’t know, Kestrel is hiding a secret from Arin and this secret can change everything between them.

The misunderstanding. The misunderstanding between them keeps killing me! There’s so many chance to tell him but she keeps controlling herself and telling herself its for the best. All the scenes that they were together just made the book so much better.

I will admit that i did not care about certain part of the plots as i don’t think its interesting but of course its also for the plot.

I really enjoy reading the conversations between Kestrel and Arin. Marie Rutkoski did so well with the dialogue. It brings out so much emotion and tension between the character.

I will recommend this book to everyone! If you haven’t read this book, what are you waiting for? Pick it up spent 6 hours on it and you will beg for the third book.

Overall, the plot, the character and the narrating was AMAZING. I NEED THE WINNER’S KISS RIGHT NOW.

Until next time,
